 Some of our Basic rules... 

1. Always Keep The Muzzle Pointed In A Safe Direction  This is the most basic safety rule. If everyone handled a firearm so carefully that the muzzle never pointed at something they didn't intend to shoot, there would be virtually no firearms accidents. It's as simple as that, and it's up to you.  Never point your gun at anything you do not intend to shoot. This is particularly important when loading or unloading a firearm. In the event of an accidental discharge, no injury can occur as long as the muzzle is pointing in a safe direction.  

2. Firearms Should Be Unloaded When Not Actually In Use  This is a COLD range. Firearms should be loaded only when you are on the firing line, ready to shoot. When not in use, pistols need to be holstered and unloaded, rifles with the bolt locked to the rear. Firearms will be unloaded while in transit to and from the firing line and your vehicle. Whenever you handle a firearm or hand it to someone, always open the action immediately.  Never assume a gun is unloaded -- check for yourself!  

3. Don't Rely On Your Gun's "Safety"  The safety serves as a supplement to proper gun handling but cannot possibly serve as a substitute for common sense. You should never handle a gun carelessly and assume that the gun won't fire just because the "safety is on."  With bolt action rifles, ensure the bolt is open as well.  Never touch the trigger on a firearm until you actually intend to shoot. Keep your fingers away from the trigger while loading or unloading.  You and the safe gun handling procedures you have learned are your gun's primary safeties. Serious safety violations will result in you being asked to leave and come back another day. If violations persist, you will have your membership revoked.  

4. Be Sure Of Your Target And What's Beyond It  No one can call a shot back. Once a gun fires, you have given up all control over where the shot will go or what it will strike. Don't shoot unless you know exactly what your shot is going to strike. Be sure that your bullet will not injure anyone or anything beyond your target.  Ensure you are shooting at an angle that will allow the bullet to impact the backstop and not go over it. An example would be going to a knee on the pistol range and firing at an upward angle to your target. If necessary, lower your target to prevent this from happening.  

5. Use Correct Ammunition  No tracer, armor-piercing or incendiary ammunition may be fired at any time. If you punch a hole in the steel, you bought it. The steel pistol bay is made from AR-400 steel. It is softer than the rifle range’s AR-500. Absolutely no rifle caliber ammunition will be fired in the pistol bays. Rifles such as the AR-15 can easily destroy AR-400 pistol targets. You must assume the responsibility of using only the correct ammunition for your firearm.  Hand loaded or reloaded ammunition deviating from pressures generated by factory ammo can be dangerous and can cause severe damage to guns and serious injury to the shooter. Do not use improper reloads or ammunition made of unknown components.  

6. Always Wear Eye And Ear Protection When Shooting  All shooters will wear protective shooting glasses and some form of hearing protectors while shooting. Most rules of shooting safety are intended to protect you and other parts, solvents or other agents from contacting your eyes.  This rule is for your protection alone.  

7. Everyone is a Safety Officer  If anyone sees an unsafe act, that person should call a cease-fire immediately and have the problem resolved before continuing. This is a private club and there may not be a range master at every firing line. This makes it even more important to pay attention to detail and ensure you are conducting yourself in the safest manner possible.   

8. Drugs and Alcohol are not permitted,  They do not mix. Alcohol is prohibited from being consumed on the premises during the hours of operation. Anyone who appears to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs will not be allowed on the property.   

9. Modified Guns Are Fired At The Shooter’s Risk.  Firearms are complicated mechanisms that are designed by experts to function properly in their original condition. Any alteration or change made to a firearm after manufacture can make the gun dangerous and will usually void any factory warranties. Any weapons with modified parts will be used at the shooters' risk. N.E.T.T  is not responsible for catastrophic failures or negligent discharges due to improper modifications.   

10. Do not go forward of the firing line  No one is allowed forward of the firing line while the range is hot. Wait until everyone is finished shooting and call “RANGE COLD”. Everyone should repeat this to make sure it was heard by everyone. Before anyone goes forward of the firing line the shooter will call “DOWN RANGE”, this lets everyone know there is someone going downrange.  At this time magazines should be out and actions locked to the rear. No one is allowed to touch their firearm while someone is downrange.  Once everyone is back at the firing line and you have ensured no one is still downrange, call “RANGE IS HOT” to resume firing.  

11. All Children Under 18 Must Be Accompanied By An Adult  All persons under the age of 18 must be supervised at all times while on the firing line. This means you can not send your son or daughter to the pistol range alone while you bang steel at the rifle range.  Children need to stay with the adult. Children are not confined to rimfire caliber firearms.  Any child who can safely and competently handle, load/unload and shoot a firearm unassisted may do so with adult supervision. DO NOT load your .44 Mag and hand it to your 12-year-old, This is not an example of competent handling.  

12. Members MUST Stay With Their Guests At All Times.  As a member, you are allowed to bring guests to spectate or spot for you. The guest must sign the rules and release waiver as well. All members must accompany their guests at all times and are responsible for their actions. If a guest does it, you may as well have done it yourself. Please keep an eye on them. Your guest may not respect the club or the rules as you do. If your guest would like to shoot on the range they must become a member.   

13. Rifles Must Be Zeroed Prior To Firing On The 1-Mile Steel Range  If your rifle is not Zeroed you must zero your rifle on the 100yd range prior to firing on the 1-Mile range. There will be no “walking it on.” Doing so will be grounds for dismissal. If there is no reason to believe your zero is off, members still need to "confirm" zero at the 100yd paper target, but this can be done from the 1-Mile tower. This is to hopefully mitigate any adjustment errors such as being a revolution off one way or the other on your windage/elevation knobs.  This range is the only one like it in Texas, having said that, there are some extra safety precautions in place to help ensure projectiles do not leave the property.  Do not fire at any wildlife downrange. Do not fire farther left than the left-most target and right of the right-most target. Only shoot at the steel targets!!  

14. Full Auto Fire   Fully automatic fire is not allowed. This is for your safety and everyone around you as well.  This includes “bump firing” and firing from the hip in general. Only aimed shots are permitted. Any erratic firing which could cause a projectile to leave the property will not be tolerated.    

15. Class 3  Class 3 firearms are permitted. This includes SBR’s and suppressors. Full auto capable guns may be fired, but only in the semi-auto setting. Please take the time to put a copy of your paperwork in your range bag and have it with you when shooting.   

16. If you made it this far, thanks for taking the time to read the rules. Once you arrive you will still have to read the member's orientation. Do NOT tell us you "already read all of this stuff online". You did not, you read this shortlist of common-sense range rules that should apply to any range you visit. If you tell us you "already read all of this stuff online" we will obviously know you at least didn't read this far.
